24 hour challenge: Strange Facility
“A road trip through the countryside sounded like a fantastic idea. In retrospect it might have been a mistake. You drove all by yourself, visited some landmarks and beautiful scenery. Then your car broke down in the middle of nowhere. The last village passed an hour ago, no town in sight, not even a single building – and your phone has no signal. Only the endless forest to all sides. After pitying yourself for a bit, you start walking along the dirt road. It has to lead somewhere.
After what felt like hours, and your watch agrees, you reach a tarred road. Finally a sign of civilization. You are uncertain, but it appears that there is something a few miles down the road, so you head in that direction and walk another hour.
Suddenly you find yourself on a large clearing. There are buildings ahead, so you quicken your pace. The further you walk the worse the feeling in your gut becomes. Some of the concrete structures look like bunkers, while others look like modern office buildings. But there is nobody around to ask, no one walking the road you are walking and even the illuminated areas of the buildings show no sign of life. You probably shouldn’t be here, but then again there were no guards or even a fence.
Suddenly the speakers all around come to life with a crackle. A monotonous voice announces ‘Attention, all personnel. The facility is experiencing multiple containment breaches. Please move to the nearest evacuation area. If you are unable to evacuate, remain in a safe area until the recontainment team reaches your position.’
You wonder what these words mean, when the ground beneath the whole clearing begins to tremble.”
A little challenge I made for myself: what can I get done in Blender in a 24 hour time frame? So this entire scene – from start to finish – was created on one day. Total working time about 11 hours. I know the scene is lacking polish, but the goal for today was to get a better sense of how long I actually take to do things (80/20 rule strikes again). It was fun doing it and hopefully helps me to be more structured in regards to 3D rendering and improving my time management.
Created with Blender 4.2.
